PARCC

Every year, our students take a number of state assessments. We share the results of these assessments with you in order to give you an idea about the progress your child is making in school. We also use the results of these assessments to help us improve classroom instruction and to identify areas where students may need some extra support. The North Smithfield School Department will be implementing the PARCC assessment this Spring.

A few changes based on feedback have been made to the assessment:
• Consolidation of the two testing windows that stretched from March to June into one testing period
• Reduction the number of test units
• Reduction of the testing time for students by 90 minutes overall (30 minutes in English language arts, 60 minutes in mathematics); and
• Flexibility in setting testing schedules within the testing period

Substitute Informational Meeting

Do you have a Bachelor's Degree?  Would you like to work the same hours as your child's school day?  If you answered "yes" to either question, we invite you to become a substitute teacher for the North Smithfield School Department.

We are holding an informational meeting on Thursday, January 28th at Halliwell Memorial School's Library from either 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. or 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.  We will review the process to get certified, discuss the benefits of subbing in North Smithfield and enjoy each other's company.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Mrs. Daigneault (jdaigneault [at] nsps [dot] us) or Mrs. Jolin (djolin [at] nsps [dot] us).

We look forward to seeing you!

Singing Their Hearts Out

Under the direction of Mrs. Greco, members of the Halliwell After School Chorus performed at the Winter Concert on Wednesday, January 20th, at North Smithfield High School's Auditorium.  Over seventy of our third, fourth, and fifth graders sang about snowflakes, winter and even ugly sweaters.  We are so proud of how our students worked hard to prepare for this memorable night!
